Three people were injured in separate traffic accidents

Three people were injured in separate traffic accidents Thursday in Effingham.

At 5:26 p.m., pedestrian Mercedes P. Unkraut, 17, of Effingham was struck by a vehicle driven by Tammy L. Bridges, 41, of Altamont. Unkraut had been attempting to cross Fayette Avenue at its intersection with Walnut Street. She was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital.

At 5:55 p.m., a vehicle driven by Clayton J. Meyer, 18, of Sigel turned left into the path of a vehicle driven by Steven L. Corley, 51, of Lakewood at the intersection of Fayette Avenue and Banker Street. Corley was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony’s. Meyer was ticketed for failing to yield while turning left.

At 6:32 p.m., a vehicle driven by Lyle M. Ruholl, 18, of Dieterich triggered a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Fayette Avenue and Frontage Road after turning left into the path of a vehicle driven by Dennis L. Chatham, 59, of Decatur. Both vehicles then struck a vehicle driven by Dawn R. Blevins, 43, of Spring Hill, Tenn. A passenger in the Ruholl vehicle, Jenna R. Norris, 18, of Effingham, sustained injuries but was not taken for treatment at the time of the accident. Ruholl was ticketed for failing to yield while turning left.

Condition reports on patients taken to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital are not available because the hospital no longer releases patient information.
