Rebecca Schlechte started her high school volleyball career on the Stew-Stras Comet team that finished as the 1A state runner-up. She added a 1A third place finish her senior year, and then took her talents to college.

Rebecca, as a sophomore and junior, played setter for the Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis (IU/PUI) Jaguars.

She did not play her freshman season, but in her sophomore and junior seasons Schlechte led the team in dishing assists. She set 599 assists as a sophomore and topped that by more than 35% her junior season (809).

This year, as a junior, Schlechte started 22 of 29 matches. She had 809 of the team’s 1,198 assists (67.5%). She averaged 7.22 assists per set. Schlechte was third on the team, scooping 201 digs (1.79 dps), was fifth in service aces (17) and had 26 blocks. She had 36 kills.

In 26 of the 29 matches she dished double-digit assists. In 17 of the 29 matches, she dished over 30 assists. She started the season with four-straight matches of at least 31 assists and had 30+ assists in her final 8 matches of the season.

That included her season-high which was 52 of 56 team assists against Youngstown State. She had 84 assists against Youngstown in 2 matches this season.

That 52-set match was after a 45-set match against UIC-Chicago and a 46-set match against Milwaukee. Schlechte had 143 assists in a 3-match streak, averaging 47.3 assists per match.

Schlechte had 47 assists against Lipscomb and a season-high five blocks. She had four blocks against South Dakota. Schlechte, the setter, had seven matches, almost eight, with a double-double (digs/assists).

Her season-high of 14 digs, came in her final match of the season against Cleveland State. Four times she had 12 digs, against Georgia Tech, Wright State, UIC-Chicago, Youngstown. In six of the last eight matches she had double figure digs with an 11-dig match, four with 12 digs and her final, 14.

Schlechte was fifth overall in the Horizon League in assists per set and was fourth in league play with 7.17 per set. She was named to the Horizon League’s Fall 2019 Academic Honor Roll and the Horizon League Volleyball All-Academic Team. Schlechte held a 3.974 GPA in Accounting and Finance and also made the Horizon League All-Academic Team for the second-straight year.

In her sophomore year IU/PUI (2018) was 9-21, 6-10 Horizon. She started 25 of 29 matches. She led the team with 599 assists (5.93 aps). She was 4th on the team with 303 digs (3.0 dps). She finished with 30 kills, 14 service aces and 23 blocks.

She dished out 21 assists and 14 digs in her first collegiate game against Southern Illinois. She began the season with 22-straight games with double-digit assists and posted 11 double-doubles.

Schlechte dished out a season-high 48 assists and added 15 digs, three kills and three blocks against UIC. She had a career-high five kills against Youngstown State and Green Bay, with a career-high 5 blocks against Cleveland State. She finished the season with four-straight games with at least 12 digs.

Schlechte started her prep career at Stew-Stras as a freshman setter on the State Runner-ups, along with junior hitter Kendall Knop, who went on to two consecutive NJCAA National Runner-up finishes for Lincoln Land Junior College.

Stew-Stras was state runner-up in 2013 (28-13), sectional champs over Arthur, 25-18, 25-19, and super-sectional champs over Liberty, 25-20, 24-26, 25-18. They won the state semifinal over New Athens, 25-12, 25-23, but lost the state title to Rockford Keith Country Day, 25-18, 25-17.

When Schlechte was a sophomore, Stew-Stras was sectional semi-finalist 2014 (22-15). They beat Windsor for the regional title, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21, but lost to Danville Schlarman in the sectional semi, 25-12, 25-20.

Schlechte’s junior year, Stew-Stras was sectional semi-finalist 2015 (28-10). They were regional champ over St. Anthony, 25-17, 25-22, but lost to Cissna Park in the sectional semi, 25-20, 29-27.

Her senior season, 2016, the Stew-Stras Comets finished 1A state in third place (35-6). They were sectional champs over Farmer City Blue Ridge 25-15, 25-10 and super-sectional champ over Springfield Lutheran, 25-17, 25-20.

They lost to Lanark in the state semi, 25-22, 25-27, 25-18, then defeated Norris City for 1A state third place, 25-15, 26-24.

In high school, Schlechte was a 2013 Prep Volleyball FROSH 59-Highest Honorable Mention selection and Champaign All-State 100 Honorable Mention

In 2014, she was Special 50 selection and Shelbyville Daily Union Fall Athlete of the Year in 2014. She was Decatur Herald and Review All-Area First Team. She was National Trail Conference team all four years of high school and was named the MVP following her senior season.
