Effingham High School put together 82 points to hand Paris an 82-68 loss in a girls' track dual Tuesday at EHS.

The Hearts were led by Jena Hecht and Lori Martin with two victories each. Hecht swept the hurdle events taking the 100 highs in 17.12 seconds and the 300 lows in 52.54. Martin was a winner in the 100 in 13.26 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 4 inches.

EHS had four other individual first-place finishes and claimed three of the four relay events. Shelby Sarchet won the 400 in 1:04.36 minutes. Danielle Patton claimed the triple jump at 30-9 1/2. Patton also took third in the 100. Chelsey Watkins won the 1600 in 6:12.4 minutes.

Kelsey Mosher was a winner in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches. Mosher also took second in the shot and placed third in the 200.

EHS won the 800 relay in 1:57.6, the 400 in 55.43 and the 1600 in 4:34.9.

On the boys' side of the meet, Paris captured an 87-51 victory as the EHS squad was split with the freshmen and sophomores competing in the 20th Annual Highland Freshman/Sophomore Invitational.

In the varsity meet, Paris swept the relays and won eight individual events.

Andy Cohorst captured the shot and discus for the Hearts. Cohorst won the discus with a throw of 117-0 and the shot with a heave of 39-11. Ben Cisna won both hurdle events taking the 110 highs in 16.67 and the 300 lows in 45.24.

The Hearts went 1-2 in the 100 as Matt Devall nipped teammate Dylan Webb at the tape with a time of 11.77. Webb finished in 11.97.

"In his first 1600 meter run effort of the season, Steve Keller led the pack from start to finish," said EHS Coach Terry Harbaugh. "He won in 5:21 taking first by more than 100 meters."

The Hearts had several medal winners at the Highland Frosh/Soph Invitational. Cole Mintert captured first in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet. He also was fourth in the 300 hurdles and competed in the 100 and on the 1600 relay team.

Adam Buening was second in the 1600 in 4:54.68 and Schuyler Curtis took third in the discus with a throw of 94-3.

"It was an outstanding effort," said Coach Harbaugh. "Everyone continues to improve."
