The legacy of an Effingham man found dead on Thursday will live on through the tattoos he drew on many area residents over the years.
Michael Ladd Blair, 39, was pronounced dead at 1:24 p.m. Thursday at a home somewhere on the south side of Effingham. Authorities had been called at 12:53 p.m. because Blair was unresponsive. No foul play is suspected, said Effingham Police Chief Mike Schutzbach.
"My father went to wake him up from a nap and found him dead," said Blair's older brother, David Blair, of Kenosha, Wisconsin.
David Blair said the two great joys of his younger brother's life were his art and his young daughter.
"He really enjoyed his artwork and his daughter," he said.
While Illinois State Police crime scene technicians are investigating the death, David Blair doesn't think his brother was a victim of foul play.
"I talked to him about a month ago and it seemed like he was doing OK," Blair said.
Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey said that autopsy results were inconclusive. The coroner added that the cause of death will not be released until toxicology tests and a final autopsy report is complete — probably in six to eight weeks.
Guffey declined further comment.
