A question on Tuesday's ballot for residents of Stewardson-Strasburg Community Unit School District 5A asks:

"Shall the athletic co-op between Windsor CUSD 1 and Stewardson-Strasburg CUSD 5A be renewed and continue in the future?"

It's not binding. That question, which has been batted about for a while now, is ultimately up to the respective school boards.

Stewardson-Strasburg Athletic Director Shane Smith said that he is not a voter in the district and does not know much about it.

"We don't have to do what the vote says," Smith said. "I do what my school board tells me to do."

On May 30, 2018, the Stewardson-Strasburg school board voted to end its athletic co-op with Windsor. But later the school districts reached an agreement for the co-op to continue for two years.

On Wednesday, the softball team played a game at Windsor Elementary School.

Some parents attending it were all for keeping the co-op. One said that if they split up the teams, there might not be enough kids for each.

Stewardson-Strasburg Superintendent Michele Lindenmeyer said the ballot question was not generated by the school district, and she's not sure how it came to be on the ballot.

She said a few individuals from the community got it on the ballot by having enough signatures.
