BEECHER CITY — No foul play is suspected in the death of a Beecher City man found Thursday in a wooded area near his home.

The body of David Tarrant, 66, was found at 3:47 p.m. Thursday, the Effingham County Sheriff's Department and the coroner's office said in a joint news release. Tarrant had been reported missing at 1 p.m. Thursday. Deputies soon determined that Tarrant had been missing for about 24 hours and a search was initiated that included businesses and homes that Tarrant was known to visit. Friends and neighbors joined deputies in the search.

Au autopsy was ongoing at presstime Friday evening. County officials said the investigation is ongoing.

Illinois State Police Zone 7 Investigations and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services are assisting in the investigation.
