TEUTOPOLIS — The Teutopolis Unit 50 school board has hired Deborah Philpot as interim superintendent until a permanent successor for Bill Fritcher is found.
Fritcher was recently hired as the superintendent of the Neoga School District. He served as superintendent in Teutopolis for nine years.
Philpot retired two years ago from the St. Elmo School District, where she was a superintendent for 12 years. Of her 35 years in education, she was an administrator for 27 of them. She has two children; one will be a junior at Eastern Illinois University this fall and the other will be a freshman at Kaskaskia College. Her husband, Brady, is retired.
Philpot had recently told her husband she was thinking about taking an interim position when the Teutopolis position opened. Under terms of her retirement, she can work up to 120 days for the Teutopolis district.
Board President Brad Koester said having Philpot as an interim superintendent will give the board more time to review applicants for a permanent superintendent.
Board member Leon Gobczynski voted present on Philpot’s hiring.
In another matter, the board approved a floor plan for the proposed locker room/bathroom renovations. According to Board Member Troy Ozenkoski, school officials met with the architects last week to address some of the concerns that the coaching staff and teachers had with the drawings. Each locker room will have an office and there is a third coach’s office with a private restroom. The elevator was eliminated from the floor plan.
A storage room and corridor were added, some of the storage room will roll into a band room office. The plan adds a locker room for a total of three locker rooms and will make the bathrooms ADA accessible. A mechanical room was also downsized.
Board member Brian Meyer voted against approving the floor plan. The board will vote later this year on whether to let the work out for bids.
