Some people take it easy when they retire, but not Jane Willenborg.
After working for 36 years in the business office at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Willenborg wants to focus her new found freedom on the Unit 40 School Board.
“I am retired and don't have any kids in school any more,” said Willenborg. “I can focus my time and energy on the board.”
Willenborg, who has four kids and six grandkids with husband Dennis, wants to put her energy into educating young people.
“Scores on recent state testing were low,” said Willenborg. “I'd like to see those scores up.”
Willenborg said an emphasis on parents helping in their children's education would be beneficial.
“I would like to get parents involved in another" Parent Teachers Organization, said Willenborg.
The candidate out of Summit Township has been involved with a variety of local organizations. She serves on the Arts and Environment Committee at Sacred Heart, serves as a Eucharistic mister, attends Scared Heart Church and was the Effingham County Director for a statewide campaign for attorney general.
“Every school can see improvement for the betterment of our kids,” said Willenborg.
