ameren sale

Ameren Energy Resources has put its Effingham headquarters on the market.

Ameren Energy Resources is selling the 40,000 square foot AER Resource Center in Effingham.

Ameren Corp. spokeswoman Susan Gallagher said the company’s recent restructuring, which led to layoffs of 11 local employees last summer, caused the company to put the building up for sale.

Gallagher would not say how much the utility company was asking for the building, which was built in 1968 as the clubhouse for the old Park Hills Country Club. After the golf course was closed, the building also housed a computer software company before Ameren bought the building from Effingham State Bank in June 2001.

Ameren Energy Resources is a subsidiary of Ameren Corp.

The building at 300 Sur Woods Drive, off U.S. 45 on the northern edge of Effingham, was renovated to provide office space, training rooms and chemistry laboratories to support the company’s electric generating plants.

The two-level brick veneer building sits on a 6 1/2 acre lot. The ground level is set up for office space, while the lower level has been used for chemical laboratory work and warehouse/receiving space. Because the building sits on the side of a hill, the lower level rear offices are actually at ground level with full doors and windows.

In addition to the 2,448-square-foot chemical laboratory, the building also contains eight conference rooms, 16 private offices and numerous areas suitable for cubicle offices.

The building also contains dining areas on both levels, as well as a full kitchen area on the ground level.

Gallagher said the 20 employees remaining in the building will be relocated. She would not say whether all remaining employees would stay in Effingham.

Gallagher did say the building was in “move-in” condition, meaning that a new owner can use the buildings without making any structural or mechanical renovations.

Ameren remodeled portions of the building prior to the recent round of layoffs.
