Gloria Dell Porter, 74, of Watson, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Effingham, with the Rev. Roger Marshall officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery. Gloria was born on Nov. 11, 1939, in Mason, the daughter of Amos Jackson and Minnie Marie Rose (Cohea) Lilley. She married Ronald D. Porter on June 9, 1957, at First Baptist Church in Effingham, and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2008. Gloria was a member of First Baptist Church in Effingham where she helped out in the nursery for several years. She was the “bestest mom in the whole world.” She enjoyed Christmas, flower gardening and her family.
She is survived by her children, Lori (Roger) Keller of Watson, Heather (Mike) Schultz of Stewardson, Jim (Melissa) Porter of Fort Pierce, Florida, and Tim Porter of Watson; grandchildren, Jesse Keller, Savanah Keller, Adam (April) Schultz, Lucus (Julie) Schultz, Nicole Schultz, Lee Porter, Sam Porter, and Lillian Porter; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Jones of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, and two sisters.
