Effingham Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) plans to celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week in Effingham by saluting some of our local “Faces of Travel,” along with great giveaways at the Effingham Visitor Center.

This year’s theme, “Faces of Travel,” shines a spotlight on the people that make up America’s travel industry. Across Effingham, travel employs a prosperous and diverse workforce, from hotel employees to restaurant, attraction and retail workers.

Travel and tourism is a $36.3 billion industry for Illinois, providing over 300,000 jobs and generating $2.7 billion in local tax revenue. In Effingham County, travel and tourism generated $153.53 million in travel expenditures and supported close to 1,000 jobs in 2015. Effingham County also received $2.99 million in local tax receipts from travel and tourism in 2015.

This week is about celebrating all that travel encompasses, especially those people working on the front lines of our travel and tourism industry. The CVB will highlight these faces and attractions on the Facebook page, “Visit Effingham” Monday through Friday. Share the posts for a chance to win a prize from the corresponding attraction that day. Participants will have five chances to win some great prizes.

The Effingham Tourism Office is also giving away a grand prize at the end of the week. Residents can also stop by the Effingham Visitor Center at 1505 Hampton Drive to register to win two tickets to a Chicago Cubs game and a $50 VISA gift card. Stop by the Visitor Center between Monday, May 8, and Friday, May 12, to register to win the prize package. The winner will be drawn after 1 p.m. on Friday. Residents and visitors that come in the Visitor Center during National Travel and Tourism Week will also receive a free Effingham huggie/koozie and free cookies from Cookie Creations while supplies last.
