The case of an Effingham man facing several drug charges was continued in Effingham County Circuit Court Tuesday to allow additional time for the defense and prosecution to work out a plea deal.

Defense attorney Richard Runde requested the continuance on behalf of Rex Shaw, 39, who is accused of two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and one count of domestic battery.

Runde told the court the defense and prosecution are working on a negotiated plea, but have not reached agreement yet. Runde said he has made a counter plea to the prosecution’s offer, but the state has yet to accept. Shaw’s case was continued to 10 a.m. Friday.

Shaw is accused of delivering between 1 and 15 grams of cocaine to a confidential source of Southeastern Drug Task Force on June 14 and 22, both Class 1 felonies. He also is accused of committing domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, on Oct. 7.
