Effingham moves to .500 with win over Robinson

EFFINGHAM — Effingham had its first home match of the season Tuesday against the Robinson Maroons, and sent the fans home happy.

The Flaming Hearts won six of the eight contested contests and took the dual 48-27 on the night.

Brody Beck started the Hearts off with a pinfall victory over Brad Setton at 106 pounds. The 113-pound class was a double forfeit, Robinson was awarded 120 via forfeit, and Effingham took 126 via forfeit on a win for Zane Thilker.

Casey Holle was defeated 10-6 by Robinson’s Alec Keeler at 132, but Effingham picked it back up when Brad Marschke pinned Tristan Duran in 3:49.

Robinson was awarded 145 via forfeit. Effingham rattled off three straight pins by Jeff Beasley at 152 (0:57), Nathan Case at 160 (0:52) and Travis Durbin at 170 (3:10). Robinson was awarded 182 by forfeit, while Effingham’s Turner Nathan was awarded the 285-class by.

The Hearts and Maroons split the remaining classes, with Effingham’s Griffin Paige earning a pinfall victory in 1:28 at 195 and Brett Hodges being pinned by Robinson’s Aaron Rankin in 0:42 at the 220-pound division.

Effingham (2-2) is off until Saturday, when they head to the Cumberland Pirate Duals at 9 a.m.
