ROBINSON -- Holding a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second, Teutopolis' Bobby Wenthe stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Wenthe ripped a single down the right field line, emptying the bags on a three-RBI shot, and the rout was on.

The Wooden Shoes scored six runs on a two-out rally in the second, and starter Kyle Pruemer pitched a one-hitter as Teutopolis claimed the Robinson Regional title with a 8-0 victory over the Lions.

"In the first two innings, we really jumped on their starting pitcher," Wooden Shoes coach Justin Fleener said. "On a two-out rally, that's huge from our at-bats."Derek Smith opened the second inning with a double to left center, before Lions starter Austin Osborn retired the next two batters. Teutopolis loaded the bags with a walk and single from Chase Wendling, and the stage was set for Wenthe and the offense to come alive."I was thinking I should have bunted after we opened with a double, but the offense came through," Fleener said. "The big three-run single by Bobby. It was a nice performance today."After Wenthe's single put the Wooden Shoes ahead 4-0, Alex Goldstein drove an RBI single to left and Darren Probst took a ball deep to right center for a two-RBI double. The six-run frame gave Teutopolis a hefty 7-0 lead through just two innings.Teutopolis didn't need the large lead, however, as starting pitcher Kyle Pruemer was in top form.Pruemer struck out nine Marshall batters on the afternoon, and had a no-hitter going through six innings. The no-hitter would stand through the first two outs, but Osborn singled for the Lions to get their only hit of the game. Pruemer retired the next batter to finish with one hit and three walks."You hope they don't get a hit, but it happened and that was that," Pruemer said, instead deflecting attention toward the team effort. "Once you get a little bit of a lead, I think for everybody on defense, your nerves settle down and you can make plays."Pruemer and the defense made plenty, pitching a shutout against Marshall with a regional title on the line."It's a very nice feeling," Pruemer said. "Now we can go to sectional, coach (Fleener) told us, 'Be ready for practice on Monday.'"The Wooden Shoes were able to enjoy the win over the weekend, at least. On top of Wenthe's and Probst's big days at the plate, Reed Hardiek hit a solo homer in the fifth, and Pruemer also drove in a run."We're going to enjoy this," Fleener said. "These regionals are sweet too, and we're going to get ready for next week."The Wooden Shoes (26-3) move on to host the Teutopolis Sectional, where they will take on the winner of today's game between Mount Carmel and Carmi White County. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
