After getting past a case of early-match jitters, the St. Elmo volleyball team found its stride in Tuesday night’s semifinals of the Class 1A Lebanon Sectional.
Now, the Eagles find themselves one victory away from a trip to the super sectionals.
St. Elmo fell into an early 7-3 hole in the first set of its match against Woodlawn.
The Eagles scored six consecutive points — the beginning of a 16-5 run — to break from a 9-9 deadlock for a 25-14 victory in the opening set.
Woodlawn led 5-4 early in the second set when Savannah Feezel delivered back-to-back kills for a 6-5 lead.
The Eagles cruised from there, and went on to notch a 25-15 victory that sent them into Thursday’s 7 p.m. championship match.
Feezel had eight of her team-leading 13 kills in the second set, and also served up two aces in the victory.
St. Elmo will take a 27-9 record into Thursday’s title match. The winner will advance to the Valmeyer Super Sectional on Saturday.
