TEUTOPOLIS — Teutopolis overcame a slow start, got hitting up and down the lineup and took out Central A&M 10-0 Tuesday in five innings.

Despite not scoring for the first two innings and mustering just two hits in the first two innings, things took off in the third.

Madison Cowman laced a one-out single to center, followed by a walk by Anni Borries out of the two-spot in the order.

The heart of the order did it from there. Kadi Borries laced a two-run double, followed by a two-run home run by cleanup hitter Allison Apke to dead centerfield.

"Madison had a nice hard line drive," said Teutopolis coach Rich Niebrugge. "Anni was really patient there, and that set it up for Kadi looking for a pitch she liked. Allison put a good stick on the ball."

Armed with a 4-0 lead that would prove to be more than enough, Kadi Borries pitched well enough where it would look like a 1-0 lead would have been enough.

She briefly ran in to trouble in the third, allowing runners to reach first and third with two outs, but a strong throw from center by Julie Wente kept Addie Collins at third. Borries induced a weak grounder back to the mound, and the only trouble spot was over with no damage.

Kadi Borries only allowed three hits over five innings, striking out six in the shutout, and Niebrugge had nothing but high praise for his sophomore ace.

"Kadi was in control from first pitch to last pitch," he said. "She came right back at them. She's out there having fun. What excellent starting pitching today."

The entire order took its toll on the Raiders in the fourth, with Danielle Repking and Raegan Drees each looping a single down the third-base line, and then each scored on a Cowman RBI double.

The Raiders got a second out, but Kadi Borries walked and then she and Cowman executed a double steal to go up 7-0.

Borries scored on a wild pitch, Allison Apke singled and scored on a Wente triple and Wente scored on an error to clinch the 10-run rule.

While the top of the lineup got it going, it was a full effort, with seven Shoes getting hits on the day.

"This is our seventh game, and we've had games where runs come from up and down the lineup," Niebrugge said. "Any one of those girls coming up with the bats, I like our chances. Tonight, we had good approaches."

Kadi Borries was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs and a double, Apke was 2-for-3 with the home run, Cowman was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, and Julie Wente was 2-for-3 with the triple.

Teutopolis moves to 7-0 and hosts Newton in a makeup game this afternoon.
