Hearts shut out by Mt. Vernon

(Continued)

With 33:45 left in the opening half, Jones settled the ball inside the penalty area, turned and fired a shot past Effingham goalie Frank Kasdorf. About 10 minutes later, Reitz knocked a header from a goal kick his way. He took the pass and scored.

Ten minutes into the second half, McDanel finished a flurry in front of the Effingham net that Isiah Meyer started with a rebound.

McGowen facilitated Jones’ final goal when he found the striker streaking down the left side. McGowen’s pass settled in front of Jones. His shot again found its way past Kasdorf. The

Effingham goalie finished with six saves.

The Hearts fall to 3-3-0 and will have little time to regroup. Effingham travels across town to take on the St. Anthony Bulldogs (3-1-2) at 4:30 p.m today.
