ROXANA — Despite heat restrictions shortening the matches at the Roxana Tournament Saturday, Altamont battled back from a title game deficit to take home the title.Altamont downed the hosting Roxana Shells 21-13, 21-14 in the semifinal and came back to best Hardin Calhoun 16-21, 23-21, 17-15 to win the tournament. Sets were only played to 21, with any third set being shortened to 15. In the match with Roxana, Lauren White stepped up with a team-high 10 kills and three digs, while adding two aces. Deidre Ledbetter had three kills and three digs to lead both categories. Macy Wendling tallied 17 assists, Amelia Kopplin had six kills and two aces, and Gabby Alward added five kills.The championship match was an uphill battle after the opening set loss 21-16. The Indians had to stave off Hardin Calhoun in both the second and third sets, requiring extra points in both two in by two. Alwardt led the Indians with nine kills in the title game and White added eight kills with two digs and a block. Macy Wendling had 16 more asists and an ace, Kopplin and Ledbetter each had three digs to lead the team and Chandra Smith had two aces. Altamont (4-1) heads home Thursday for a match with Casey-Westfield.
