---- — CHARLESTON — St. Anthony coach Ben Scherzer said Wednesday he liked the Charleston Nine-Hole Scramble as a season-opening tournament for his Bulldogs.
It showed Thursday, as St. Anthony took home the tournament title with a score of 77.
Each team paired their golfers in to teams of two, with the golfers playing a best-ball format. Each school's best two scores counted for their team score.

Marian and Madison Bushue paced the Bulldogs' effort for the day, teaming up for a 35, the second-best round of the day. Charleston's Lauren Chappell and Morgan Sherwood took home the medal with a 34.
St. Anthony had two other twosomes on the day, with Abby Brown and Maddie Schuette carding a 42 and Abby Schmidt and Kyla Burton scoring a 46 on the day.
Effingham grabbed the third-place medal thanks to Morgan Wilson and Alex Brummer combining to shoot a 37 on the day, with Brummer hitting the day's closest shot to the pin on the eighth hole.
Kaylee Tonn and Hope Collier rounded out the Hearts' day with a 47.
Teutopolis was led by Casey Willenborg and Ellie Ruholl, who combined for a 42 on the day. Haley Giles and Katie Thoele shot a 46 for the Lady Shoes as well.
