---- — CASEY - Effingham bested a number of regional foes, including St. Anthony and Teutopolis, on its way to the Casey-Westfield sectional championship Saturday. Effingham had 22 points to win the meet, with St. Anthony and Charleston tying for second with 18 and Teutopolis earning 13 points and fourth place. "This sectional championship was a total team effort," said Effingham coach Greg Brumleve. In addition, three local singles players and two local doubles teams will be moving on to state as well. St. Anthony's Cole Buehnerkemper won his third straight sectional championship over Robinson's Brennan Buchanan 6-0, 6-2, earning a trip to state in the process. Teutopolis' Kyle Brumleve downed Effingham's Aaron Meyers in the third-place match 6-1, 6-2 and became Teutopolis' only state qualifier.Effingham was the only team to send multiple players to state however, as both of their doubles teams are headed to state. Isaac Foreman and Jason Wohltman took second in the section, losing to Charleston's Sean Hussey and Alex Gowin 6-3, 6-3. The duo of Parth Maheshwari and Jared Minor also qualified, finishing fourth after falling to Casey-Westfield's Eddie Kemper and Cody Hollensbe 7-6 (7-5) 4-6, 6-3. St. Anthony's first doubles team of Scott Rentfrow and Jay Niebrugge advanced to the semifinals before falling to Maheshwari and Minor to end their seasons. The state finals begin Thursday at Hersey High School in Arlington eights. Brackets and matchups will be released Tuesday.
