---- — WINDSOR -- The Stew-Stras Comets used a carefully executed gameplan to upset Windsor earlier this week to advance to the regional final -- don't pitch to Lindsay Floyd. It worked so well, they modified the plan for their final against St. Anthony, this time with it being don't pitch to Makayla Walsh and let the other Bulldogs beat them. The Comets were dealt a lesson in being careful what you wish for, as the rest of the Bulldogs stepped up and won a regional championship 5-1 over Stew-Stras. "When we played her before, most of them hit her well except for the top of the order, so we said 'Top of the order, you need to get going,'" said St. Anthony coach Crystal Tipton.St. Anthony got on the board early. Morgan Gardewine and Walsh came around to score on a two-run single by catcher Hunter Niebrugge to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second, the Bulldogs kept pushing it for the next three innings, scoring a run in each on RBIs by Kristen Schuette, D.J. Brummer and Meghan Woltman. As for Woltman, the offense was more than enough for the senior pitcher. She continued her recent hot streak, allowing just four hits and one unearned run over a complete game while striking out seven.""Meghan took command from the start," Tipton said. "She pitched so well today. She's being a leader with her pitches, she's being a leader with the bat today."Stew-Stras had success against Woltman in the NTC tournament third-place game, but it didn't carry over to Saturday's regional final. "The biggest thing was our lack of ability to do anything with Meghan Woltman," said Stew-Stras coach Kyle Knop. "She did what people that throw offspeed do, they get you out on their front foot. She had us chasing at the shins and knees."Kendall Knop was saddled with the loss for Stew-Stras, allowing five runs on eight hits and six walks. She struck out five. "She had a long spring," Kyle Knop said. "She was strong for the Windsor game, it was a no-brainer to bring her back."Courtney Schultz went 2-for-3 for Stew-Stras with a run, Kendall Knop was 1-for-4 and Mariah Tabbert was 1-for-3 with a double. Schuette went 2-for-4 on the game with a triple and an RBI, Woltman and Brummer each went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Morgan Gardewine was 2-for-4 with a double.Walsh went 0-for-0 with four walks, scoring twice despite being pitched around. "When you pitch around Walsh like we did, St. Anthony had four or five other girls that moved the ball," Knop said. The Bulldogs advance to sectional play in Moweaqua, taking on Pawnee at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will face either Cumberland or Ramsey. "We need to score when our runners are on," Tipton said. Even though we did get the win today, we had a lot of runners left on base."
