---- — NORMAL — Coming off a fifth-place finish in its season opener, St. Anthony rebounded Tuesday with a third-place finish at the Redbird/Raider Classic.

The Bulldogs finished the day with a 313 team score, behind first place East Peoria's 307 and Lockport's 308.

St. Anthony played well outside its rank at Illinois State University's Weibring Golf Course, taking down a number of bigger schools in a 21-team field.

"This tournament here, we were the lone single-A school," said St. Anthony coach Phil Zaccari. "It's amazing what a day will do. I'm very proud of them.

The Bulldogs were paced by a pair of 76s from Connor Greene and Garrett Hixenbaugh. They were only similar in number, however, as Hixenbaugh birdied three of the final five holes to turn a 7-over into a 4-over. Both golfers tied for 10th overall.

St. Anthony's score was boosted by an 80 from Nick Wortman, up from an 86 during Monday's St. Anthony Invitational in Windsor.

"Nick made a commitment after yesterday to never give up on his round, and it paid off today," Zaccari said.

Jared Hutchison also got in on the scoring, finishing with a solid 81 after being disqualified Monday. Sam Wortman shot a 92 and Jeff Niebrugge carded a 94.

St. Anthony will head to Macomb over the weekend, facing Pleasant Plains at 2 p.m. Friday and taking part in the Macomb Invitational Saturday morning.
