Sanders, Post 120 race by Bluford 17-3

Daily News

---- — Effingham Post 120's Junior Legion finally got back on the field after a week-plus of rain and showed no signs of rust as they took out Bluford Post 1193 17-3 Friday night.

Effingham scattered 12 hits on the game, but initally didn't need to put bat on the ball to score runs against Bluford. They put three runners on without the benefit of a hit.

Eli Buhrman and Michael Woltman were both hit by pitches, and Swayde Sanders walked. Buhrman scored on a wild pitch, and Trenton Poe drove in two with a single. He came around to score on another wild pitch.

The big inning was the third, as Effingham sent 12 batters to the plate. The post scored seven runs on five hits, with all five hits producing RBIs for Ryan Barnes, Taylor Martin, Reed Schafer, Adam Koester and Woltman.

That was more than enough offense for Sanders, who had Bluford off balance for his five innings of work. The lefty carved them up for the first three innings, allowing just one runner to reach on an error. He struck five batters out in the first three frames.

Bluford pushed a run across in the fourth inning after a lead off walk and a line drive single down the third base line by Austin Growler.

The one run didn't spark any kind of rally for Bluford, as Effingham tacked on two more runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Koester.

Koester finished the game with three hits and four RBIs. Buhrman had two hits and two RBIs, pushing home two runs in the three-run sixth for Effingham. Poe also had two hits and two RBIs. Woltman, Barnes, Brady Jackson, Martin and Schafer each had one RBI.

Sanders earned the win after five innings, allowing just the one run. Koester relieved him in the sixth, and allowed two runs over his two innings.

Effingham looks to keep its momentum going Sunday, when they travel to Altamont for a doubleheader against Post 512.
