T-Town's Will receives IHSA honor

TEUTOPOLIS — Cody Will has had plenty of success on the court recently with the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, as the team has started off 5-1.

Will was honored for his on-court demeanor Monday by the IHSA.

The Teutopolis senior received the Sports A Winning Attitude (SAWA) honor via an IHSA report.

The program recognizes acts of exemplary sportsmanship and integrity that occur in IHSA events and are reported by IHSA officials and school personnel.

Will was recognized for his play at the Lawrence County Capital Classic after Thanksgiving, where Teutopolis took fifth place.

“Cody Will from Teutopolis High School stood out among his peers as an example of the sportsmanship that the IHSA promotes,” the report said, via the IHSA website. “He was always polite, never argued a call, handed the ball to the officials, and always said ‘thank you’ when handed the ball or when he had a questioned answered.

It is not an accident that his sporting demeanor also led to calm play at a high level. ody Will made Teutopolis High School, his coaches, his community, and his parents proud during this tournament, and it did not go unnoticed by the officials.”

Batavia’s Micah Coffey was the only other SAWA winner on the website.

The typical phrase used in situations like this, I think, is: “He shows potential.” I may not have believed anything I was saying, but at least he was in line to be a four-year starter; at least, he had that.
