---- — Teutopolis’ strength in the singles and double game propelled the Wooden Shoes to a sectional title and a trip to state this week. The Wooden Shoes tallied 25 points across two days at the Effingham Sectional, narrowly edging out Olney’s score of 22 points for the title. The Shoes had two doubles teams and a singles player qualify for state Friday, and that singles player kept it up Saturday. Holley Wright topped St. Anthony’s Jenny Walters 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the sectional title and took out Vandalia’s Hannah Blythe 6-1, 6-4 to earn the sectional singles championship.Walters defeated Olney’s Jaclyn Shan 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to earn third place in singles play.In doubles’ action, Teutopolis’ Ashley Hemmen and Taylor Deters were blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Olney’s Kelsey Shipman and Alex Kauble, while the Shoes’ Allison Vogt and Elena Breer defeated Olney’s Nicole Shan and Audrey Jansen 6-0, 6-2 to make the sectional title. They fell to Shipman and Kauble 6-3, 6-1. Deters and Hemmen downed Shan and Jansen 6-4, 6-1 for third place.St. Anthony took fifth place overall with 11 points, and Effingham tied for sixth with eight points. Teutopolis’ entire team qualifies for the state tournament beginning Thursday, while St. Anthony’s Jenny Walters punched her individual ticket by making the sectional semifinals.
