---- — SPRINGFIELD — Led by Jarrett Hardiek’s winning time of 11:14, the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes won the Springfield Christ the King IESA Sectional cross country meet.
Teutopolis had little trouble winning with 39 points, followed by Christ the King with 70 and Liberty with 72. Those three teams advance to the state meet Saturday in Normal.
St. Anthony was just barely on the outside looking in, finishing with 75 points and three points outside of a trip to state.
For the Shoes, Jacob Schmidt’s time of 11:51 was good for sixth and Ian Copple took ninth with a time of 12:07.
St. Anthony’s Clayton Helmink took fifth with a time of 11:42, while teammate Dylan Guy finished 13th in 12:18. Both are headed to state as individuals, according to IESA’s website and their tentative state meet qualifiers list.
In addition to the Shoes’ team and Helmink and Guy, Cumberland’s Kort McClellan and Blake Sutherland are headed to state as well.
On the girls’ side, St. Anthony’s Ava Wegman and Cumberland’s Morgan Gerhardt are the only local runners to advance to the IESA state meet.
The SIJHSAA website does not have a list of runners competing in its state meet this Saturday. StrokeStyle/$ID/Solid
