Effingham Daily News

CHAMPAIGN — Cumberland's Nathan Day had two losses at the state tournament over Thursday, Friday and Saturday, coming to two wrestlers who finished the season 80-1.

For his efforts, Day took home fourth in the state Saturday at the Class 1A 120-pound tournament at the State Farm Center in Champaign.

Day lost Friday night to unbeated Nelson Baker of Byron -- who went on to win the state tournament -- and started Saturday in the semifinal wrestlebacks.

He faced Cory Wilson of Chicago Bowen, and moved on to the state third-place matchup after he was deemed the winner in 3:41. Wilson had to forfeit the rest of the match due to an injury.

His opponent in the state third-place match was Belleville Althoff Catholic's Jarrid Braunagel, who had just one loss on the season.

Day came up on the losing end, falling 6-3 in the match and taking fourth in the state. He finished his season at 41-4.
