---- — EAST PEORIA – Two teams entered the Class 2A IESA state ball tournament undefeated this weekend, and Paris Crestwood entered the state championship game undefeated. Both of those teams lost to Teutopolis, as the Wooden Shoes took out both Carrollton GS in the quarters and Paris in the state championship. Teutopolis clinched its second state championship in four years with an 11-8 win over Paris Saturday afternoon. T-Town was also the 2A state champion in 2011 with a win over Crest Hill Richland. The championship game was an offensive battle, with a Cody Jansen grand slam in the second inning putting Teutopolis up 6-3 early. Paris grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third, but couldn’t hold on. Down 7-6, Teutopolis scored two in the fourth and the fifth each, and added one in the sixth to claim a lead it would never relinquish. In addition to Jansen’s grand slam, Ethyn Dust was 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs, Collin Funneman was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Lee Hardiek was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Jackson Goeckner went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Funneman earned the win on the mound with five innings of work, allowing seven runs while striking four. Hardiek pitched the final two innings and earned the save. To advance to the state title, Teutopolis first had to battle Maroa-Forsyth in the semifinals Saturday. It wasn’t much of a battle, as T-Town mercied M-F in three innings with a 16-1 win. Teutopolis scored four runs in both the first and second innings and finished off the game in short work with an eight-run third inning.Drew Thoele was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run. Goeckner was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double, Hardiek was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double, Michael Deters was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and Dust was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Hardiek, in addition to his save in the state championship game, earned the win against Maroa-Forsyth with three innings pitched while allowing two hits and one run. Teutopolis also finished second in 2010 and 2008, while claiming the title in 2011.
