Newton's defense will look to get on track against the Lions, as the Eagles have surrendered 40 points per game this season.
Cumberland looking to build on first win
The Cumberland Pirates beat Palestine/Hutsonville 6-0 last week for its first win of the season, while it was the third time this season the Cumberland offense scored six points in a game.
This week, though, they host Casey-Westfield, who is undefeated and ranked the second best team in Class 2A. Casey-Westfield was 11-1 last season.
Cumberland and Casey-Westfield have played two different styles this season, as Cumberland hasn't scored or allowed more than 19 points in a game this season; however, Casey-Westfield has scored no fewer than 44 points in a game this season.
Last week, Cumberland focused on the ground game, as Holden Elwood ran the ball for a team-high 47 yards on 16 carries, while Dylan Martin chipped in with the team's only touchdown in the game.
The game is set to start at 7 p.m. And will be each team's third Little Illini Conference game this season. Casey-Westfield is currently tied for first place in the conference with Oblong at 2-0.
If the Pirates lose, they would have to win their remaining four games to have a shot at making the playoffs for a third consecutive season.
