SIU-Edwardsville junior second baseman Chase Green was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Monday, the first such honor for the Effingham grad.
Green led the Cougars to a sweep against Murray State in Murray, Ky. over the weekend, htting .462 with two home runs and eight RBIs over the weekend.
He hit a grand slam Friday, the first of his career, hit a solo home run in Saturday’s game and had a two-run single and drove in one in a three-hit game Sunday.
Green, a junior after missing the majority of last year with a shoulder injury, is hitting .299 with a .358 on-base percentage and a .471 slugging percentage.
All three are would-be career highs twenty games into the season.
The Cougars are back in action today at home against Maryville at 6 p.m.
