---- — After day one of the Illinois state tennis tournament, only one Effingham area player was left standing. St. Anthony's Cole Buehnerkemper overcame an early loss to go 3-1 Thursday and advanced to Friday's play in the consolation bracket. Buehnerkemper won his opneing matchup against Moline's Justin Rumley 6-2, 6-2, but fell to Waubonsie Valley's Eric Marbach 6-1, 6-0. He was sent to the consolation bracket, but rebounded nicely. He bested Tinley Park's Brian Moy 6-3, 6-2, and closed the day with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 win over Algonquin Jacob's Kendrick Chong. Buehnerkemper will face Wilmette Loyola Academy's Anthony Arocho today. Effingham's Aaron Meyers lost his opener to East St. Charles' Jasper Koenen 6-0, 6-0, and was eliminated with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Crystal Lake Central's Danny Nelson. Teutopolis' Kyle Brumleve had a similar fate, losing to Mt. Prospect's Ben Fisch 6-3, 6-1 and Oak Park River Forest's Miles Blim 6-4, 6-4.The Flaming Hearts had a pair of double teams make it to state, but neither picked up a win. Isaac Foreman and Jason Wohltman lost to Glenview Glenbrook South's Will Lyon and Michael Baddelloo 6-3, 6-2, and then were eliminated by Wheaton Warrenville South's Brian Welch and Tim Reinders 7-5, 6-4.Parth Maheshwari and Jared Minor were beaten by Peoria Richwoods' Chandler Clayton and Nico Khazzam 6-2, 6-0 in the first round and ended their day with a hard-fought 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 loss to Springfield's Moshe Latif and Peter Mueller.
