PEORIA-Anna Sophia Keller is no stranger to setting records and claiming state titles, having captured the Class A seventh-grade crown in the 1600-meter run last season, and setting a state record in the process.

This weekend, Keller again won the 1600-meter title, now in the eighth-grade division. Keller's time of 5:03.80 was nearly a second better than the previous record, 5:04.91, set by Kately Bastert of Carthage in 2003. Keller's historic run in the 1600, as well as second-place finish in the 800 (2:21.29), helped lead Effingham Sacred Heart to a seventh-place showing at the state meet. The top team, however, was St. Anthony, who turned in a fourth-place finish. Kristin Slaughter captured a state championship in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet for the Illinois Class A crown. Slaughter did exactly that to her competition, winning the event by 18 inches. Not a one-trick pony, slaughter also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:03.91. Andrea Pace of Clifton Nash won in 1:01.64.Jenna Woltman of St. Anthony finished second in the shot put and 31st in the discus with throws of 31 feet, 8.25 inches and 69 feet, one inch, respectively.Other area performers were Altamont's McKenzie Goldstein, Sydney Zacha and Keirdron Duckwitz.
