Tuesday sectional semifinal roundup

BRIDGEPORT — South Central High School's run in the Class 1A volleyball postseason has ended at the hands of last year's third-place finisher.
Cumberland returns to the sectional finals and will face a familiar opponent after beating the Cougars 25-18, 26-24 in Tuesday's semifinal round of the Red Hill (Bridgeport) Sectional.
The Pirates (26-2) will take on Little Illini Conference mate Edwards County (Albion) after the Lions dismantled Eldorado by a 25-12, 25-9 tally.
Last year, Cumberland eliminated Edwards County at the sectional semifinal level and went on to place third at the state tournament in Normal.
South Central (28-5) ends its season after winning its first regional title since 2004; sophomre Emily Atwood led the effort with four kills, whiole Kinzie Neilson, Kelsey Uphold, Krista Lotz and Katie Crain each had two.
Thursday's 7 p.m. finale will give the winner a berth in the Saturday Edwards County Super-Sectional.

At Windsor
Windsor (29-7) will play for the title of its own Class 1A sectional after beating Danville Schlarman 25-18, 25-19 in semifinal action. No statistics were available as of press time.
In the other semifinal, Mount Pulaski's vaunted club saddled Tri-County (Kansas) with a 25-20, 25-19 loss to advance to Thursday's 7 p.m. championship. A trip to the Arcola Super-Sectional will be at stake.
