Saturday regional volleyball roundup

TOLEDO — Cumberland High School pulled out its own Class 1A Volleyball Regional championship Saturday.

The Pirates handed Stewardson-Strasburg a loss in two games, 25-18, 25-11. Leading the Comets in kills were Sadi Sparks and Macy Shupe with seven each.

Stew-Stras was led by Sarah Conder, Kelsi Anderson and Abby Rincker with two kills each. Anderson had a block. The Comets end the season with an 11-26 record.

Cumberland improves its record to 26-2 and will advance to the Red Hill (Bridgeport) Sectional Tuesday against South Central at 7 p.m. In the opener, Eldorado takes on Edwards County (Albion) at 6 p.m.

At Macon

Windsor claimed the Class 1A Macon Meredian Regional championship

The Blue Devils defeated Moweaqua Central A&M, 25-22, 25-19.

"We played an excellent match tonight. It was obvious that our girls were ready to play at a high level," said Windsor Coach Lori Bennett. "Our focus was impressive from start to finish. We have been working very hard to solidify our defense and better our offensive, and those things were evident tonight in our performance. We are definitely playing our best volleyball of the season right now.

Windsor (28-7) will now advance to its own sectional Tuesday where it will face Danville Schlarman at 6 p.m. In the second match, Mount Pulaski takes on Kansas Tri-County at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Macon Meredian Regional

Windsor — Maxwell 11 kills, 3 aces, 4 blocks, 3 digs; Cole 7 kills, 1 ace, 2 blocks, 6 digs; A. Groves 2 kills, 1 block, 5 digs; B. Groves 5 digs; Becker 7 assists, 5 digs, 1 ace; Blackburn 1 kill, 13 assists, 3 aces, 3 digs

At Grayville

Edwards County (Albion) won the Class 1A Grayville Regional championship.

The Lions defeated Clay City 25-10, 25-7. Edwards County will advance to the Red Hill (Bridgeport) Sectional Tuesday to face Eldorado at 6 p.m. In the second match, Cumberland takes on South Central.

At Mattoon

Mattoon picked up its own Class 3A regional title. The Green Wave had beaten Effingham Thursday to advance to the championship.

In the title match, the Green Wave downed Charleston 25-17 in the opener. Charleston came back with a 25-21 victory. Mattoon then went out 25-13.

Mattoon advances to the Bethalto Civic Memorial Sectional Tuesday to face Troy Triad at 7 p.m. In the opener, Breese Mater Dei takes on Waterloo at 6 p.m.
