Shoes, Cougars win conference games

Effingham Daily News

STRASBURG — Teutopolis High School is still undefeated and Stewardson-Strasburg is still winless after the two met at Knop Field for National Trail Conference baseball action.

T-town broke a 4-4 tie with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, beating the Comets 8-4 in a game originally scheduled to be played in Teutopolis but moved due to wet grounds.

Marcus Gillespie and Jacob Koester each drove in three runs, while Jake Bierman was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Wooden Shoes (5-0, 2-0 NTC).

Luke Rincker hit a solo home run and was 2-for-3 on the day, but his Stew-Stras club saw its mark fall to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Luke Bushur struck out 12 and walked just one in a five-hitter for T-town, earning his second win on the hill this fall.

On the losing end was Jaden Widdersheim, a junior who surrendered nine hits and walked six in six innings. Widdersheim is 0-2 on the year.

The Comets host Altamont Tuesday in more NTC play, while T-town plays Patoka tonight at 7 p.m. in the North Clay Baseball Showcase before hosting St. Elmo in league play Tuesday.
