T-town wins soccer opener

Effingham Daily News

TAYLORVILLE — Teutopolis High School, a state tournament qualifier a year ago, got its soccer season underway Tuesday with a 4-1 victory at Taylorville.

Michael Brummer netted three goals to pace the Wooden Shoes (1-0), while Nick Weber also figured in heavily with three assists.

Jeremy Niebrugge scored T-town's other goal, while senior goalkeeper John Runde recorded seven saves. Mitch Bothwell also had an assist.

T-town led the Tornadoes 2-1 at halftime before doubling its total in the final half of play.

Taylorville was the junior varsity winner.

Next up for Teutopolis is cross-county rival Effingham High School, who it will face Friday at 5 p.m. to open play at the Charleston Red & Gold Tournament.
