T-town tennis downs St. Anthony

Teutopolis High School's boys' tennis team remained undefeated in dual meet action Wednesday night while in the process handing Effingham St. Anthony its first loss of the season in a 6-3 victory at Community Park.

T-town (13-0) won five of the six singles matches, with Michael Vogt defeating Chris Devall 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 in the No. 1 match and Andy Buscher knocking off Hayden Esker 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 match.

John Kay got the Bulldogs' only singles win at No. 3, defeating Lee Buehnerkemper 6-3, 6-4, but Kyle Swingler edged Jamie Schultz in the No. 4 match 6-2, 7-5, No. 5 Michael Brummer beat Anthony Schottman 6-0, 6-3 and No. 6 Nick Weber defeated Kyle Moomaw 6-2, 6-0.

On the doubles side, Devall and Esker teamed up to win the No. 1 match over Buehnerkemper and Brummer by a 7-6, 0-6, 7-5 final. Kay and Schultz, playing at No. 2, got St. Anthony's third and final win 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 over Swingler and Kolby Spiker.

In the No. 3 match, Jesse Westendorf and Buscher were victorious over Moomaw and Bryce Fearday 6-3, 6-4.

St. Anthony falls to 10-1 heading into today's home meet with crosstown rival Effingham High School.

"There were gutsy performances by both teams tonight," said T-town coach Greg Brumleve. "I am extremely proud of how well our guys played."

The Wooden Shoes are off until this weekend's sectional at Effingham High School.
