EFFINGHAM — Effingham Police officers are investigating information about weapons and explosives in Effingham with help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
After police obtained information regarding possible weapons, explosives and gun violations, a search warrant for a residence in the 600 block of South 4th Street was sought. The warrant was executed Sunday with help from the ATF and Secretary of State Bomb Squad.
According to a release, "items of interest were located, secured and collected as evidence." Follow up investigations are continuing as a cooperative effort between city police and the ATF. A representative from the police department said no further information on the warrant or what was found would be released by press time.
Future charges are pending upon legal review by both federal and state authorities.
