EFFINGHAM — At first glance, Aaron Greene looks like any other teenager preparing to make the transition into adulthood.

He might look a bit thin and his speech a bit slurred, but considering what he's been through, the spiky-haired redhead is just glad to be alive.

Aaron experienced a life-changing event on the evening of June 12 when he was struck by a car while visiting his great-grandmother in Loves Park, a suburb of Rockford. The impact drove his right arm into his shoulder socket, broke his collarbone and left arm and caused elbow and knee injuries.

But the most significant injuries were to Aaron's brain.

"During the first 72 hours after the accident, the doctors told us they expected him to be in the hospital for seven months," Mrs. Greene said.

However, Aaron has been at his Teutopolis home since the end of July and has gradually regained his physical abilities.
