Two new board members, and one seasoned veteran, took their oaths Monday to begin four-year terms on Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education.
President Del Soltwedel announced the final vote tally: Steve Bone received 1,010 votes and Laurie King 977, while incumbent Brian Wick received 807 votes.
The newly formed board's first order of business was selecting officers, electing Soltwedel and Carol Ruffner to their former positions of president and secretary, respectively. Jeff Michael was elected vice president after the office was vacated by former member Galen Altman, who was not re-elected.
Superintendent Mark Doan was elected president pro-tem, and Rem Woodruff will continue to serve as the board's treasurer.
The board will continue to meet on the fourth Monday of the month.
