Man wanted in Cumberland County arrested

Mattoon — A Mattoon man accused of firing into five Coles County homes also was wanted on a Cumberland County warrant.

Kevin D. Morlan, 37, of Mattoon was arrested Monday in Mattoon and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine. He allegedly fired a gun into four Mattoon homes and one in Charleston throughout November while the residents were inside.

Morlan was wanted on a Cumberland County warrant for DUI and a Coles County warrant for assault prior to his arrest.

Morlan has been arrested and charged with various violent crimes in the past. In 1993, he pleaded guilty in Coles County to aggravated battery with great bodily harm and served 12 days in jail. In 1994, he pleaded guilty to burglary in Coles County and received three years in the Department of Corrections.

Morlan is being held in Coles County Jail. The arrest was the culmination of efforts made by Mattoon Police, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Charleston Police and the East Central Illinois Drug Task Force.
