VANDALIA — A collision on Interstate 70 sent two semi-truck drivers to the hospital.
Michael Zickafoose, 49, of Huber Heights, Ohio, was driving a white 2007 Kenworth truck-tractor hauling a semi-trailer westbound at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 70 when he failed to see that Dennis M. Smalley, 62, of Traverse City, Michigan, who was driving a maroon 2014 Freightliner truck-tractor hauling a semi trailer, had slowed down for a construction area.
Zickafoose was unable to slow down in time and struck the trailer of Smalley. Zickafoose then traveled off the roadway to the right and into the right ditch.
Zickafoose was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was airlifted from the scene and taken to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield with injuries. Smalley was taken to Fayette County Hospital.
