STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma State golfer Jordan Niebrugge has been named to the U.S. Walker Cup team that will compete against Great Britain and Ireland.
This is the 25th time OSU has had a golfer selected to the Walker Cup team.
The 19-year-old Niebrugge has local roots in the Effingham area. His parents Rodney and Judy grew up in Teutopolis and moved family to Mequon, Wis. Both sets of Niebrugge’s grandparents still call the area home. Roger and Jackie Niebrugge still live in Teutopolis, while John and Betty Helmink live in Lillyville.
Niebrugge is a Wisconsin native who was selected to the team after a summer in which he won the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, the Wisconsin State Amateur, the Wisconsin Match Play Championship and the Western Amateur Championship.
The 44th Walker Cup Match is scheduled for Sept. 7-8 at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y.
