---- — Effingham police are investigating a vandalism spree that left nine vehicles with broken windows over the past few days.

Police reported that seven of the nine vehicles were in the neighborhood west and south of the Effingham Equity complex on Temple Avenue while the other two damaged vehicles were a few blocks east in the neighborhood directly east of St. Anthony High School. Police believe the incidents are related.

Some of the damage was discovered by vehicle owners Saturday morning, while others reported damage Sunday morning.

Detective Sgt. Todd Ebbert said police are actively pursuing any leads they can find. But Ebbert admitted police need help from the public on this particular case.

"We need the public to be our eyes and ears," Ebbert said. "If anybody has seen a suspicious vehicle in their neighborhoods or if the people responsible have talked to someone, we would like to know."

Theft was apparently not a motive in the vandalism spree. None of the victims reported anything missing from their vehicles.

Ebbert said those with information on the vandalism can call Crimestoppers at 217-347-6583, or the police department at 217-347-0771.
