---- — ALTAMONT — Altamont school board reorganized at its meeting Monday and made some preparations for end-of-the-year issues, but not without hearing about administrator salaries.
Altamont Education Association President Mike Delaney spoke to the board about the raises administrators have received over the past few years as teacher salary negotiations continue.
“I’ve been going over the raises administrators have been getting all year, and my question is about the wages, security and benefits,” he said. “I’ve been looking at that and studying that and wanted to know why they’re getting those opportunities when we’re going to be cutting programs.”
Holland said the salaries were necessary as compensation for the support administrators offer to the rest of the district’s staff and didn’t want to comment further on the subject.
”I can’t answer that, honestly,” he said. “Negotiations with administrators is similar to the negotiations with the AEA, and I don’t have anything to say beyond that.”
The board seated new members Darren Feldkamp and Rodney Schultz and re-elected officers Jim Holland as president, Gary Goldstein as secretary and David Schmidt as vice president.
In other matters Monday, the board discussed improvements to the district’s clocks in hallways and classrooms. Tim Torbeck said the new system, which would plug into ethernet cables and keep an Internet-monitored time, would give the district additional options in keeping consistent time and would allow shortmessages to appear on the digital clocks. Each clock would cost around $280.
Superintendent Jeff Fritchtnitch said with the end of the year approaching, the school will be evaluating returned computers from the district’s 1:1 technology plan. He said many of the computers that will be returned have only minor damage which could be covered by the warranty but additional costs for damage would fall to the students.
