St. Peter teen killed on bicycle

ST. PETER — Nathan Horath, 15 , of St. Peter died when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle Friday.

According to Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen, Horath was traveling south on Illinois 185 1 1/2 miles east of St. Peter when he was struck from behind by a southbound Pontiac car driven by Sandra Gelsinger of Brownstown. Bowen stated in a release Horath was operating his bicycle near the center of the roadway, weather conditions were poor and because the accident occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m., it was prior to daylight.

Horath was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:22 a.m. The crash remains under investigation by the Fayette County coroner and the Illinois State Police. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital.
