Railroad crossing arms in parts of Effingham that were stuck in the up position are now in operation.
While doing work in the area of the Amtrak Station near downtown Effingham, CSX struck buried electrical lines, which caused railroad crossing arms to malfunction across the city, said Effingham City Police Sgt. Jason McFarland. Crossing arms that were affected include those at Willow Street, Fourth Street, Fifth Street, Park Street and Maple Street. Flares were being used to warn drivers of oncoming trains.
According to McFarland, there were no injuries when the cable was struck.
