EFFINGHAM — Effingham residents who count food and fun as a quality pastime are in for a treat.

Fujiyama Japanese Steakhouse, which includes hibachi style dining and a sushi bar, is opening their doors Tuesday.

Proprietor- Benny Qiu- hopes his eatery will offer the area something new for the whole family.

“If you want to have fun and a good meal, this is the place to bring your kids and parents,” said Qiu.

While there is seating at the sushi bar and traditional dining, 10 hibachi style tables will provide a diners with dinner and a show. Each table seats 10 to 12 people. The menu will include appetizers and alcoholic beverages, along with steak, lobster, salmon and vegetarian dishes.

“The chef does a show at the grill, where they cook and throw things in the air,” said Qiu, adding that the meal preparation lasts 20 to 30 minutes.

Qiu, who has made Effingham home with his wife and two children, owns two similar restaurants in Marion and Carbondale with his brother. With a restaurant that caters to family style dining and the busy area around Wal-Mart, Qiu is optimistic about the future of the establishment.

“Hopefully being here we can help Effingham get better, and customers can help our business,” said Qui.
