The Stewardson-Strasburg Board of Education met Thursday night to continue searching for a superintendent.
After meeting and interviewing candidates and discussing their options in more than three hours of closed session meetings, board president Bob Schlechte said one of the candidates appears to be the front runner.
“We interviewed three people and there’s one candidate we really want to pursue,” he said. “We hope to officially offer the position to someone in two weeks and hire them by our next board meeting.”
Schlechte said the board whittled the list of applicants from 15 down to three contenders to interview. Schlechte said the board was simply looking for the best fit both for the school and for the future superintendent.
“We’re really just looking for the best candidates for both of us,” Schlechte said. “Stability is one thing I know I’m looking for. We don’t want to be doing this again in two or three years.”
“Right now, I know a lot of us are looking for someone with a good financial head on their shoulders,” said board member Chad Smith.
Schlechte said the board discussed their preferences on candidates in closed session before mutually agreeing on one candidate. The board’s next meeting is Jan. 24.
