Asphyxiation cause of Lake Sara man's death

---- — Preliminary autopsy results indicate a 24-year-old Lake Sara man found dead Thursday afternoon near the Lake Sara Community Building died from asphyxiation.

Dustin Knapp was pronounced dead at 3:08 p.m. by a deputy coroner.

The coroner’s office stated in a news release that Knapp was first spotted by fishermen near the lake in the early afternoon. Police located Knapp’s body and contacted the coroner’s office.

The coroner’s office said final manner and cause of death will be released once final autopsy and toxicology results are complete.

The coroner’s office is investigating the death, along with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department. Other agencies assisting in the response and investigation include the Illinois State Police, Effingham Water Authority Police and Shumway Fire Protection District.
